How do I get this thing to work?

I could not resist adding a caption to this photo of Cooper. I think he is thinking great, finally the kids are gone but I don't know how to work this remote! Reminds me a bit of an Everybody Love's Raymond episode. Reminds me of my dad too, how he feels so out of his element in this digital age with cell phones, computers and electronics.
